Naturopathic medicine is a unique specialization within the health care field. The basis of naturopathic care lies on the search to find the underlying cause of illness. Doctors within this field are trained in pharmacology, nutrition consulting, customized weight loss, nutritional injection therapy, botanical medicine, IV nutrient therapies, homeopathy and energetic modalities, manipulation, hormone balancing therapy, auto-immine disease management, and liver detoxification and environmental medicine protocols. Through these modalities, naturopathic doctors seek, find, and treat the root cause of illness and health imbalance.

All naturopathic doctors attend a 4-year doctorate degree program and are considered primary care physicians by most major health insurance carriers in the state of Oregon.

Does My Insurance cover Naturopathic Doctors?

Naturopathic Doctors (NDs), within the state of Oregon, as well as other states, are considered primary care physicians (PCPs).  Through dedication, hard work, and positive patient response, Naturopathic medicine and massage therapy, have gained recognition.  Presently in Oregon, most major health insurance carriers consider NDs as PCPs, offering benefits through alternative health care plans.  Due to the popularity and respect NDs have built through individualized, preventative, and specialized health care provisions, insurance carriers have met the demands of the population, thus including additional health benefits to their patients.

In-Network Vs. Out-of-Network: What does this mean for my insurance coverage?

When a physician is an “in-network” provider, you, for the most part, get better coverage (you don’t have to pay as much).  When a physician is “out-of-network”, your coverage is less (you have to pay more).  As long as your insurance covers naturopathic doctors and/or massage therapists, you are most likely able to get a percentage of coverage from your insurance company.  Coverage will vary from insurance company as well as the plan you have chosen.  It is important to contact either your insurance carrier or medical billing at Renū Progressive Medicine to determine your benefits.
