A new study might be showing that over-eating is responsible for more of the obesity rates in Western civilization when compared to lack of exercise.

Our need for calories since the industrial revolution has decreased yet our intake of calories has increased.

Various factors are involved, including processed foods high in sugar and fat, large portion sizes, and a sedentary lifestyle where cars and machines do most of the daily physical work.

The following study looked a tribe that has never changed their way of eating: they only hunt and gather.  They compared their average metabolic rate to Westerners and discovered it was very comparable.  Yes, their activity level was higher, yet their average metabolic rates were the same.

Exercise will keep us healthy, but in order to stay thin, we have to eat less.
